Alouette university pavilion wins the NOVAE Corporate Citizen Awards

SEPT-ILES, June 19, 2015 – BGLA Architecture + Urban Design and Aluminerie Alouette were recognized for the Alouette University Pavilion project this past Wednesday June 17 at the Phi Centre in Montreal. The wooden statue, remitted as part of the NOVAE Corporate Citizen Award - Sustainable Building category, confirms the excellence of this achievement on the North Shore. Present at the gala were Yvon Lachance and Maxime Lelièvre, respectively from the architectural firm and Aluminerie Alouette. They proudly accepted the award on behalf of all those who contributed to the project.

Inaugurated in the autumn of 2014, the Alouette University Pavilion has welcomed students from the University of Quebec in Chicoutimi (the Sept-Îles campus) since the beginning of the year. The result of an investment of CAD $ 10 million by Aluminerie Alouette and its shareholders, the sustainable building perfectly integrates itself into the higher education complex of the Cegep de Sept-Îles.

With an area of 3200 m2, it is built using clean and recyclable materials such as: aluminum and wood. It integrates multiple environmentally friendly elements, in an effort to minimize its ecological footprint. Notably, it contains a solar wall, a geothermal system and a system designed to recover rainwater. The use of parabolic solar collectors to heat and cool the building is another innovative idea that was made possible thanks to Rackam’s expertise.

"We are honoured to have participated in such a project, which is now recognized for its ecological aspect. Now we want to maximize the use of these new technologies through other projects for the benefit of our built environment, "says the architect associated with BGLA who contributed to the building’s design, Pierre André Lévesque.

"The fact that sustainable development for future generations and the entire North Shore population is taken care of by leading experts in the field, confirms the excellence of the entire project," says President and CEO of Aluminerie Alouette, Mr. Claude Boulanger.

Presented annually to organizations that distinguish themselves with a sustainable development initiative; the NOVAE Corporate Citizen Awards represent an opportunity for the winners to showcase their successes according to their social, environmental and economic characteristics.
