According to Solrico, an agency specializing in solar market research and international communication focused on the heating and cooling sector, the global market for Solar Heat for Industrial Processes (SHIP) saw the highest increase in capacity in five years in 2024, with 120 MW of newly installed capacity. However, the number of new systems installed dropped slightly, from 116 in 2023 and 2022 to 106 in 2024, mainly due to a decrease in the Netherlands, where reduced subsidies led to a drop in agricultural sector clients. In contrast, the global market grew, with 82 systems installed in 2024, up from 73 in 2023.
The number of SHIP developers completing projects also increased, with 29 developers reporting completed projects in 2024, a significant rise from previous years. The survey involved 70 technology suppliers and project developers from 25 countries, providing insights to update the SHIP Turnkey Supplier World Map.
Mexico was a significant contributor, with the most SHIP systems globally (200), although challenges arose due to cheap natural gas making solar heat investments less justifiable. Other notable markets include the Netherlands and China, although the latter’s market data is incomplete due to the structure of its solar heat industry.
