Low temperature cogeneration with heat recovery

Located in East Hereford, Quebec, Canada, Ferme Piscicole des Bobines is the largest producer of rainbow trout in Quebec. The hatchery utilizes an innovative Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) that recycles over 90% of its water, optimizing production without depleting local water resources.

To efficiently manage the substantial volumes of freshwater required for breeding millions of fish, the facility has implemented a state-of-the-art heating system that integrates three key technologies:

        1. Heat Recovery: Captures thermal energy from outgoing water to preheat incoming freshwater, reducing the demand on primary heating sources.

        2. Solar Thermal Heating: Employs an array of evacuated tube solar collectors to harness solar energy, further decreasing reliance on conventional heating methods.

        3. Heat Pump Array: Utilizes a series of heat pumps to precisely regulate water temperatures, ensuring optimal conditions for trout rearing.

These combined technologies exemplify Ferme Piscicole des Bobines’ commitment to sustainable aquaculture practices and environmental stewardship.
